ARE YOU READY FOR AI?

Today, it is no longer a question of adopting AI or not. Instead, ask yourself if you are ready

for the inevitable: Artificial intelligence is a reality. AI will play a crucial role.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural
intelligence displayed by humans. Before C3PO and R2D2 burst the screen in 1977 as
intelligent robots, Alan Turing had already created The Turing Machine trying to decode German codified messages in WW2. This was the first step of a revolution,
has touched not only the technical or engineering part, but the philosophical and ethical
Bombe, the first computer
subjects.
AI has undoubtedly improved our’ living standard, as you can record your favorite
TV show in your absence, you can buy a cleaning robot which cleans your house saving your
time and efforts, or you can just program your cooking robot while you´re watching a football
match.

Nevertheless, those mod cons have reduced our capability and independence, and as we
purchase new technological gadgets based on AI as smartphones, smart watches or smart
TVs we become more and more dependent to them, making new generations less
independent.

Finally, we just can´t ignore the ethical and moral issue. Many authors have written about the side effects of giving independence to machines.

Replicants in Blade Runner

Even if it could sound exaggerated, films like The Terminator or I Robot (Isaac Asimov´s book) show the potential danger AI can bring. Furthermore, if progress continues, the difference between AI and Natural Intelligence could become an abstract line, as it’s shown in Blade Runner (
Do Androids dream of electric sheep’s? by Phillip K. Dick) where the meaning of being human is constantly questioned.
